Day 9 Homework

For the past two weeks I have had an awesome experience during the intersession Junior Carpenters. I have had a great time turning into a Senior Carpenter. I now know the very basics of professional carpentry, I (if I had the money) could do it. I really learned how exact and math based carpentry is. Miter Saws? PSSHH! Easy. Measurements? 150% more important than usual. On the first day I wasn't so sure. But when the first Wednesday came it blew my mind what I was actually doing. On the first building day I couldn't believe I was an average 7'th grader doing professional carpentry. And the fact that we were doing a huge project (like a gaga pit) for the whole community was really fun to know. I also really loved it when we were figuring out the equation for the plans. I never thought I'd be that sort of hard core math! And it was actually fun too! Also, I've never learned how to play a more fun game than gaga. I am really proud of my self and every one else who took a part. Not only that, but we now are all pretty darn good at playing gaga too. I have had a great time. I have a great feeling of success that started when we finished the gaga pit. I don't think I'll ever ever forget this intersession. These people too, have been awesome too. I owe great thanks to all teachers and other people who took a step into helping us. The sewing. The cutting. There are so many people to thank. I can't wait till tomorrow when we officially present this giant project to the school. I had the greatest time making this gaga pit. It is a very good feeling to finish some thing like this, and I have it. Intersession has slipped away so quickly, but it is what we will leave behind that will stand for years to come and we will hopefully always remember the gaga pit in the making when we see it. And the product that we made will be there to entertain students in the high tech village.

Day 7 Homework

If you had 27 2x4 pieces of wood it would be 40 1/2 inches tall and 3 1/2 inches wide.
The biggest challenge I had today was that I didn't know what I was supposed to be doing for the whole time. I worked around that by asking if I could help at various places. That worked pretty well.
The plan for tomorrow is to finish doing the door by putting a couple more 2x4's on and then to touch up on a lot of painting, and hopefully finish the the gaga pit, (and play in it.)

Day 6 Homework

Today a challenge I faced was holding the strong ties safely. I tried to hold it in the safest way but the drill bit still slipped and caught my finger. Also I had trouble understanding where the wood had to go, so I decided to let other people make the marks and I could held drill them in.
My favorite part of today was helping Hose B. on the wall. it was really fun and we made a great team.

Day 5 Home work

A challenge I faced was that my group had an argument about which pieces of wood we had to measure and how. We never actually worked around this challenge. But we could have just done it one of the ways.
I am proud of myself for using a miter saw. I never touched one of those before
intersession. Also that I did so successfully.
The next step is to start building! To get there all we really need to do is finish painting.

Day 3 Homework

The past few days have been absolutely awesome. I've had had a whole lot of fun and have learned a whole bunch! So far I have great ideas about what there is to come. I can't believe I'm turning into a real carpenter! I keep on being scared, and then WHOOSH! Success! I can only give great thanks to all of the teachers and helpers. I have never touched a miter saw before, and now I know exactly how to use one! I am exited, and I am proud of my self and people around me. I am really enjoying this intersession and we are getting so much done, and to think we're two days ahead! This is really awesome!

Day 2 Homework

Some problems that came up in my group while doing the measuring were we had arguments about whether or not we should write the same thing down for the same type of wood. Also we had arguments about who was right about a measurement we got different numbers
I would teach somebody to use a hand saw by telling them to be very careful, and to make sure your head is in line with the cut. Also to pull the saw to and from your chest.
67.5 is important because we will use that angle to put two pieces of a perfect octagon together.

Day 1 Home work

What is the difference between a section view and a plan view?
A plan view is a drawing of the thing from the top, and the section view is a drawing of it from the side.
What was your skit about?
My skit was about how you shouldn't get excited about using tools and use them foolishly. You probably shouldn't raise your hammer above your head about to bring it down as hard as you can on your fingers.
What is the difference between a Japanese saw and an American saw?
An American saw has the teeth faced so that it cut when you are pushing the saw forward. Japanese saw has the teeth faced so that you cut when you pull the saw back it cuts.
What is the meaning of measure twice cut once?
This saying is important because it has to perfect or nothing works. Cutting it twice
will make it worse.
